Quite in line with expectations, the BoerBurgerBeweging seems to have become the largest party in the Senate. BBB parent Caroline van der Plas’ party has tentatively won a total of sixteen seats. The joint GroenLinks/PvdA party has fourteen seats, while the coalition party VVD currently has ten seats.
GroenLinks and PvdA, which will form a single party, will together have 14 seats. This would help the coalition win a majority. VVD, D66, CDA and ChristenUnie together have 24 of the 75 seats in the Senate.
More than six hundred people, mostly members of the Provincial Council, were able to vote for the new division of the Senate. In the provinces of North Holland, Groningen and North Brabant, the vote corresponds to the results of the Provincial Council elections. In Flevoland, a D66 member of parliament voted for the VVD. Not all votes have been counted yet.
Majority
Not surprisingly, BBB is also victorious in the Senate, but the party still loses a seat compared to forecasts. The coalition parties CDA and ChristenUnie, on the other hand, will both receive an additional seat. This brings them to six and three seats respectively. This means that the coalition has a total of twenty-four seats. This means that with the help of the united party of GroenLinks and PvdA, the coalition can reach 38 seats and thus obtain a possible majority in the Senate.
Later.
