Paolo Tramezzani to return as Sion manager

As expected, Paolo Tramezzani is back in charge of Sion. The bottom of the Superleague confirms the return of the 52-year-old Italian.

This is Tramezzani’s fourth meeting with the Sioners. He first managed the team between June and October 2017. The first return followed three years later, but it lasted only from June to August.

The hat-trick came in October 2021. This time, Tramezzani was able to hold the post for more than a year. After a 7-2 loss to St. Gallen at the end of the first half of a season shortened by the winter World Cup, he was fired from the club’s management and replaced by Fabio Celestini.

At that time, Sion was eight points ahead of Zurich, who were in last 8th place. Meanwhile, Vale has slipped to last place. With a point behind ninth Winterthur and a difficult program left (home games against YB and Lucerne, away against St. Gallen), a flurry threatens against third in the Challenge League.

Tramezzani’s mission is clear: as the successor to David Bettoni, sacked on Monday, he must ensure he stays in the league.
