Alexey Shved was attacked
CSKA Moscow’s star quarterback Alexey Shved was attacked by fans after they were eliminated in the semifinals of the VTB Basketball League.
In a statement issued by the club, it was indicated that a group of hooligans attacked the 34-year-old basketball player who was leaving a restaurant in Moscow, the capital of Russia. Shved, who had a serious head injury as a result of the fall, was said to have been taken to hospital by ambulance and police were investigating the incident. It was also reported that Shved will not be able to play in the third place streak.
Going their way only in the VTB League due to Russian clubs not being included in the EuroLeague, CSKA Moscow was defeated by Lokomotiv Kuban and failed to reach the final for the first time in the league established in 2008.
Some Eastern and Northern European clubs compete in the VTB League. However, since the 2021-22 season, when teams from Poland and Estonia withdrew from the league following the Russia-Ukraine War, there have been teams from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. (AA)
