UEFA’s fear of the Istanbul final! they are on alert

Will the Champions League final be taken to Istanbul for the third time?

UEFA has made an emergency plan for the Champions League final to take place in Istanbul in case of any confusion regarding the presidential elections to be held in Turkey.

According to the Independent’s claim, the Champions League final in Istanbul, which has been canceled twice before, is once again in jeopardy. Due to Covid, the Champions League final, which was moved from Istanbul to Lisbon in 2020 and to Porto in 2021, is scheduled to take place at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium on June 10 this year. But Miguel Delaney, one of The Independent’s lead writers, said: “The election is on May 14, a month before the extravagant game on June 10.” He referred to the uncertainty of the political environment that would be generated in the country in case “the autocratic presidential regime of Recep Tayyip Erdogan is overthrown.”

It has been learned that UEFA plans to take the Champions League final from Istanbul for the third time in case of possible negativities.

PREVIOUS UEFA EXPERIENCE

After the outbreak of the Covid pandemic in 2020, the Champions League, which was played as a mini-tournament in Lisbon, was taken away from Istanbul at the last minute in 2021. A new wave of Covid has caused Turkey to be included in the red list of the United Kingdom. Since the match between Chelsea and Manchester City could not be played in Istanbul, the organization in Istanbul was canceled and the final was played in Porto.
