In front of a full house in St. Gallen, neither team was able to control the match. It was back and forth with great intensity until the very end. The game was shaped by top scorers from two teams – Ayegun Tosin (11 goals this season) and Jonathan Okita (6) in FCZ and Jérémy Guillemino (9) and Emmanuel Latte Lat (8) in FCSG.
Tosin really started the game in the 25th minute, scoring the tenth goal in the last ten games. Shortly before half-time, St. Gallen’s top scorer Gilmeno equalized. The goals were similar and typical of this duel. The ball, captured in the center of the field, was quickly won back. After the break, St. Gallen scored first thanks to Latte Lat (51st), Okita equalized just five minutes later.
The desire to play forward to make a difference was great at Kybunpark, but too often there wasn’t enough accuracy for a bigger spectacle. “We allow ourselves to resist too easily. Standard situations today were not enough, ”says St. Gallen head coach Peter Zeidler after the game.
In the last half hour, St. Gallen ran out of strength. Zurich focused more on counterattacks. Only Zurich defender Becir Omeragić and St. Gallen striker Leon Dajaku, who received a second yellow card in the final phase, caused a stir.
