When table one meets table two, they usually talk about a top battle. But this season, the Young Boys are in a league of their own. However, Peter Zeidler, FC St. Gallen coach, says before the game: “The difference is huge. But I think it can still be called a top battle, of course, it motivates us.”
An additional motive should be that St. Gallen is the only team to beat YB this season. “It helps that we have already won. It doesn’t matter that we are the only team. But there were also special circumstances: at times we played very well, but in the end the opponent had only nine players on the field, ”says Zeidler.
The Espen coach emphasizes that Young Boys are favorites, but “I think our team has a chance”: “Otherwise we could stay here and prepare for the game with Lucerne.
Against a likely future champion, Zeidler can use just about everything on his team: Patrick Sutter and Isaac Schmidt are back in shape, with Randy Schneider and Julian von Moos still undecided if they’ll return to the roster – “they’re still just a question mark” Zeidler says.
Emmanuelle Latte Latte without a question mark. “He has become an exclamation mark and should be back on the team,” Seidler says. According to his own statements, the coach himself does not yet know if he is already in the starting lineup. “The structure is in place, but recent training sessions give information about the starting line-up.”
Peter Zeidler: “Of course, I already have a few ideas. But I still have to feel the team and carry on the conversations. It is also clear that games are often won by the pot. YB is a role model, but we certainly don’t have to hide.”
The anticipation of the game against YB can be felt in the FCSG coach. He says, “Fighting yourself against the best is always an attractive and motivating challenge.”
Once again, the audience must also play an important role. “Hopefully they will be at the stadium on time this time. In the match against Geneva, it was clearly shown how much our team needs support. This should not be an excuse for a bad game against Zurich, but the audience gives us a push in decisive scenes. I hope that before the game they act and behave well, only then they are real fans of FC St. Gallen, says Zeidler.
