According to the news from the official Iraqi agency INA, based on health sources, the citizens of Basra began to go to the Palm Trunk Stadium at dawn for the final match between the Iraqi and Oman soccer teams.

In the stampede around the stadium, 1 person was crushed to death and 60 people were injured.

It was reported that some of the injured who were taken to the hospital are in serious condition.

Separately, it was reported that Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia es-Sudani was also in the city for the final match.

In a meeting with local authorities on the preparations before the final match, Sudani appealed to the people of Basra after the stampede, asking them to “stand in solidarity with the relevant institutions for the best finish of the tournament.”
