NBA legend Chris Ford dies
Former NBA player and head coach Chris Ford, who scored the first point from behind the three-point line in the American Basketball League (NBA), has died at the age of 74.
In a statement issued by the NBA, it was reported that Chris Ford has passed away and he expressed his condolences to his family, friends and fans.
Although Ford’s cause of death was not revealed by his family, according to news from the American press, Ford died of a heart attack.
Chris Ford, who played for the Boston Celtics in 1979, when the three-point rule entered the NBA, made history by hitting the league’s first three-pointer in his team’s game against the Houston Rockets on October 12, 1979.
Ford, who enjoyed the championship as a player in 1981 with the Celtics jersey, repeated the same success twice between 1983-90, when he took over as the team’s assistant coach.
Ford, who served as the Boston Celtics’ head coach from 1990-1995, ended his coaching career with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2004 after coaching the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers and Brandeis University. (AA)
