Three homes were destroyed and one person was killed in an early morning fire in Sylmar, which detonated ammunition in one of the buildings as firefighters struggled to extinguish the blaze. Los Angeles firefighters responded to the scene in the 13700 block of Glenoaks Boulevard around 4:30 a.m. Sunday and found multiple buildings on fire, authorities said. Their efforts to extinguish the fire were hampered by the presence of ammunition in one of the homes, according to LA Fire Department LAFD Capt. it’s Erik Scott. The heat from the fire then caused the ammunition to explode, giving the impression that a gun was fired, he said.
When the fire was under control, the fire brigade arrived on site
human remains in one of the structures
as well as multiple weapons in one of the
three
houses on site.
“I saw at least two, what appeared to be automatic weapons, rounds of ammunition in a row,” Scott told KTLA
-TV
. “That obviously worries us. Why is that out?”
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Authorities had not yet released information about the identity of the deceased person. Dogs were used to search for more human remains and the Los Angeles Police Department assisted in the investigation.
Both departments were still present on Sunday morning
in the 13700 block of Glenoaks Boulevard
