Fox Business Network will carry the next Republican presidential primary debate, but Maria Bartiromo, the channel’s regular star, will not be a part of it.

Fox News Media announced Wednesday that Stuart Varney, a daytime anchor on the

company

network, will moderate the Sept. 27 event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, along with Univision host Illa Caldern and Fox News host Dana Perino, of “The Five.”

Former President Donald Trump did not appear in the first

Republican Republican Party

debate on Fox News held in Milwaukee on April 23, which scored a score of

averaged 12.8 million viewers, according to Nielsen

There is no indication that Trump, who has a large lead in the polls, will appear in the election

September in the September 27 debate. The event will be

carried on Fox Business Network, Fox News and the Fox streaming service

nation

. A Spanish-language feed airs on Univision.

Fox News did not comment on the absence of Bartiromo, who co-moderated with host Neal Cavuto the last time Fox Business hosted a primary debate in January 2016.

the daily “Mornings with Maria” and the Fox News Channel’s political discussion program “Sunday Morning Futures” played prominent roles in the defamation lawsuit against Fox filed by Dominion Voting Systems, which received a $787.5 million settlement.

Dominion claimed it was corrupted by numerous false statements about voter fraud in the 2020 election on Fox News. Many of former President Donald Trump’s claims were made about Baritromo’s programs without any opposition from the anchor.

Trump attorneys Sidney Powell and Rudolf Giuliani circulated the debunked claims three times on Bartiromo’s Sunday program in the weeks following the election. (Powell, Guiliani and Trump have all been arrested in Georgia and charged with trying to overturn election results in the state).

to avoid having his on-air executives and talent take the witness stand in a trial.

Evidence in the case showed that Bartiromo believed Trump’s claims, despite Fox News’ own reporting that the allegations were false. Fox News executives were also concerned that conspiracy theorists who supported Trump were drawing Bartiromo’s attention and influencing her approach to the voter fraud story.

Bartiromo has remained in her roles on Fox News and Fox Business Network after the huge payout. Her appearance on the debate stage would be a distraction to say the least, especially as Trump continues to claim that the 2020 election was stolen.

Fox News is facing another libel suit over its election coverage, by voting machine company Smartmatic, and Bartiromo is a defendant in the lawsuit.

The emails in the Dominion case also revealed that Bartiromo is an unashamed supporter of Trump, even though she still considers herself a news anchor.

Varney is politically conservative, but has a reputation for being a hard questioner who wants Republican politicians to squirm. Since 2007, he has been an anchor of Fox Business Channel’s “Varney & Co”.

Caldern, co-host of Univision’s evening news,

has

previously served as a moderator in a 2020 Democratic primary debate on CNN.

Perino is a former White House

press secretary

in the George W. Bush administration. She is a co-host of “The Five,” the most-watched program on cable news.
