The CDA no longer wants to negotiate with the other three coalition parties on the nitrogen side of the coalition deal before the summer. This was stated by CDA leader and Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra after the Cabinet meeting. Previously, that was still the party’s commitment.
With just weeks to go before the provincial council elections, the CDA announced that it could no longer live with that part of the deal. The party wants 2030 off the table as the deadline for nitrogen targets. That wish remains, Hoekstra said on Friday.
September
After the Council of Ministers, Minister Piet Adema (Agriculture) said that the cabinet will present its agricultural sector reform plan in September. This plan will focus on how the sector is to be reformed up to and including 2040.
Earlier this week, consultations on the agricultural agreement collapsed when the agricultural and horticultural organization LTO Netherlands withdrew. According to Adema, it shouldn’t take him too long now; he wants to work “at full speed” on a plan in the next period.
