PvdA and GroenLinks kick off their provincial election campaign in separate, interconnected conference rooms. The two congresses are very popular: long queues both at the 1931 Congress Center and at the Brabanthallen.
Members of PvdA and GroenLinksers walked this morning in a joint procession from the station to the conferences. “This is already fraternizing,” joked one party member. But in the congress the Greens and the Social Democrats separated. Conference attendees were greeted by a handful of protesters, dressed in upside-down Dutch flags.
Cooperation
Congresses are separated for most of the day, but meetings are still dominated by left-wing cooperation.
While GroenLinks opened the congress with a speech by Councilor Ufuk Kâhya and Mayor Ineke van Gent, the PvdA traditionally kicked off the day by singing the Internationale, the workers’ battle song.
