The establishment of an independent climate advisory council is one of the agreements in the coalition agreement. In addition to Erisman, up to nine scientists from different disciplines will have a seat in the WKR. The recruitment of the other members is still ongoing.

Science the basics

“Science forms the basis for climate policy,” says climate minister Rob Jetten. ‘So I think it is essential to strengthen the link between policy makers and science. The WKR will play an important role in this by translating scientific knowledge into concrete recommendations for climate policy.’

Erisman himself calls the climate task “large and complex”. In addressing this problem, other issues such as the protection of nature and species richness and the “promotion of broad social welfare” must also be involved. ‘That is why it is essential to provide the best possible advice on the subject from all scientific disciplines.’
