Tea price rise exceeds 100 percent in five months

TürkiyeTea, one of Turkey’s traditional drinks, is on the rise again. Thus, ÇAYKUR increased the price of tea by 101.7 percent in the last 5 months. Following the increase, the price of the most consumed Rize Tourist Stream increased to 151.5 TL.

The price per kilogram of the most consumed tea in ÇAYKUR in January was 75 TL 5 months ago. With the end of the elections, on June 8 the price of tea, which was 75 Turkish liras, began to rise. With the consecutive increases, the price of tea reached 151.5 TL. ÇAYKUR, which increased dry tea prices by 43 percent on June 8, decided to increase them by 9.5 percent on July 14. On August 15, the organization made a third increase in tea prices of 4.5 percent. ÇAYKUR increased the price of tea by 15 percent on September 12. Thus, the price of 1 kilogram of tea in the markets exceeded 120 lira. With the latest increase made by the institution, the price of 1 kilogram of tea exceeded 151 lira and prices increased by 101.7 percent in the last 5 months. It has suffered a total loss of 2.8 billion lira since 2017, when it was transferred to the Wealth Fund. The institution’s debt to banks amounts to 4.8 billion Turkish liras.
