Biden approved bill that will prevent government shutdown
US President Joe Biden approved the temporary budget bill that will prevent a shutdown of the federal government.
According to the White House’s written statement, Biden signed the bill, which was previously approved by the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The bill provides funding to ministries such as Energy, Agriculture, Transportation, Housing and Urban Development until January 19, and the rest of the government, including the Ministry of Defense (Pentagon), until February 2.
SECOND SIGNED PROVISIONAL BUDGET
Biden reportedly signed hours before the temporary budget, which was adopted on Sept. 30, when the country’s fiscal year 2023 ended, and provided funding to the government through Nov. 17, expired.
This bill was the second interim budget to avoid a government shutdown in fiscal year 2024, which began October 1, 2023.
Under US law, if Congress cannot pass the permanent budget for the fiscal year that begins October 1 and ends September 30, the gap must be closed with temporary budgets. During periods when the interim budget cannot be approved, federal institutions that lose their spending authority temporarily cease their activities. (AA)
