Increase in bridge and highway rates
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in his statement after the January 9 cabinet meeting, stated that there would be no increase in roads and bridges. Erdoğan said: “We share with you the decision not to increase highway and bridge fees in 2023, with the principle of returning to the nation what we receive from the nation. “Congratulations,” he said.
However, today, the General Directorate of Highways announced on its social media accounts, “Highway and bridge rates have been reorganized, starting at 00:00 on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.” It made an announcement saying: “Detailed tariff information according to vehicle classes can be accessed at http://kgm.gov.tr.”
Following the increase in bridge and highway fees, the one-way passage of light commercial vehicles across the July 15 Martyrs Bridge and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge was increased from 8.5 lira to 15 lira.
