“HERE WE DO NOT DO POLITICS”

At the meeting of the presidents of the chambers, the mayor of Edirne, Recep Gürkan, stated: “Here we do not do politics. Here our merchants do not bother us. After 6 or 7 months, there are elections. We will all go to these merchants and say, “Vote for us.” Can’t we tell? we will say The future of these merchants will tell us about their problems because the law has given us the authority to increase the tariff for those merchants.”

“THANK YOU FOR WORKING”

Hakan Giyik, Director of the Edirne Public Transport System (ETUS), said:

“I want you to know that if our raise demand is not met, we will face the same things again. Because closing contacts is not convenient for us. This is our profession, our job, but we will no longer be able to move our vehicles. A representative of a political party called me the other day: ‘You’re doing number 7 for 20 or 25 minutes, why are you doing this?’ I’m so sorry I said this. “I’m glad we’re working.” We currently close the day with a loss of 2,500 to 3,000 TL per day. No business can continue the day it closed with a loss.”

“TIMES AFAK NOW”

Göksel Çakman, president of the Edirne Chamber of Craftsmen of Service Vehicle Operators, said: “We are one of the merchants who suffered the most from the pandemic. We close contact directly, we never work. The prices that went up after that are now price increases, this is the common point of all of us…”

“WE EARN A LOT BY WORKING HARD”

Ali Şahin, President of the Edirne Chamber of Drivers and Automobile Professionals, said:

“At night, many taxi stands are missing our taxis. Where from? One more man will cost one more. There is no such gain. We used to earn a lot by working hard. We start losing by working hard. Let’s go buy a tire, we can’t. These merchants have a hard time paying the employee’s salary and insurance… That’s why we ask you to take care of us. We want to give a good service to the people of Edirne”.

“EVERYTHING WILL BE DONE SOON”

Ayhan Can, president of the Edirne Traders and Artisans Credit Guarantee Cooperative, said: “I have 1,500 driver friends in Edirne who use more or less loans. They are currently unable to pay their debts. Soon they will all be executed. I am a driver like them and I have a minibus. Let our friends earn money. May it be of use to all merchants when you go to the market. Let him go to the market, to the stationery store,” he said.

“ARTISAN DOES NOT WANT THE RISE FOR HIS OWN”

The president of the Edirne Chamber of Craftsmen and Craftsmen’s Union (EDESOB), Kemal Cingöz, said: “I am also against an increase, but there is something else. The merchants do not want the increase alone. If that means losing a new customer every time. Traders’ friends know this very well,” he says.

“WE DO NOT HAVE THE STRENGTH TO LAST LONG”

Taxi driver Birol Yüzer also said:

“Fuel is our biggest expense. Also, tires, insurance and taxes cost a lot. We are about to consume zero. The price of fuel, which during the elections was 18 liras, has now been set at 38 liras. A terrifying cost. Although we do not want to compromise to some extent the quality of the service. After a point, we don’t have much strength to hold on.” (PHOENIX)
