There are only a few days left until the start of the new academic year, but the level of prices for university residences and rents have deepened the real estate crisis this year.
In Istanbul, which is home to around 2 million students, both rising rental housing prices and university dormitory prices have become the main problem for students.
According to data from Bahçeşehir University Center for Economic and Social Research (BETAM) “Rental Housing Market Outlook”, the annual rate of rent increase in Istanbul was 109.5 percent in June. , while the average price per square meter of rental housing was 161 TL.
After the prices of private residences increased by more than 100 percent and changed between 40,000 and 320,000 TL per year, students began to search for cheap housing.
MINIMUM HUMIDITY RATES FOR HOUSES WITHOUT HEATING
Considering the average price per square meter, while the price of a 100 square meter house in Istanbul exceeded 16,000 lira, it was almost impossible to find a house below this price. However, students who want to continue their educational life in increasingly difficult economic conditions are trying to find hope and cheap rent.
The striking images greet students looking at listing sites to look for a house. Despite the increase in rental prices, it should be noted that the houses are almost uninhabitable. Most of the below-average-priced houses have no heat and almost all are damp apartments.
RENT OF THE HOUSE WITH EXPLODED GLASS 10 thousand 500 TL
‘How to live here?’ Even the cheapest of the wet rental houses, called 10 thousand 500-11 thousand TL, indulge in the advertisement. On the other hand, it is worth noting that these apartments are located below grade and almost do not even have windows.
Another striking factor in below-average-priced apartments is the small size of the kitchens and sloppy bathrooms. In some ads you can see that a year’s rent is requested in advance.
In general, the floors where countertops and cabinets are placed in a corner of the room, which do not even reach the meter, are houses with an average of 40 square meters. The bathrooms are run down and need renovation.
