8-year record in tomato and fruit prices

The Antalya Commodity Exchange announced the index of tomatoes, fruits and vegetables trading in the Antalya markets in August.

Thus, in August the amount of tomatoes decreased by 24.01 percent, the amount of fruit decreased by 8.48 percent compared to the previous month, while the amount of vegetables increased by 76.38 percent.

The quantity indices decreased by 2.97 percent in tomato, 38.72 percent in fruit and increased by 52.86 percent in vegetables with respect to the same month of the previous year.

Annual changes in the indices in August indicated a record decline in the amount of fruit, a record increase in vegetables, and a below-average decline in tomatoes.

While changes in annual price indices were 8-year records for tomatoes and fruit, they were above average for vegetables.

While the tomato price index rose 125.48 percent year-on-year in August, the 2.97 percent decrease in quantity and rising demand were the main reasons for the high price rise.

THE INCREASE IN DEMAND WAS EFFECTIVE AT THE TIME

The vegetable price index rose 93.25 percent year-on-year.

Although the annual quantity index for vegetables increased by 52.86 percent, increased demand played a significant role in this above-average price increase.

While the fruit price index increased 146.37 percent annually, the 38.72 percent decrease in the amount of annual fruit transactions led to an increase in the price.

The monthly changes in the quantity and price indices in August were reflected in the table as a record increase in the quantity of tomatoes over the last 5 years and a below-average price increase.

Compared with the previous month (monthly), the tomato transaction quantity index decreased 24.01 percent in August, while the transaction price index decreased 30.94 percent month-on-month.

Compared with the previous month (monthly), the vegetable transaction quantity index rose an extraordinary 76.38 percent in August, while the transaction price index showed a monthly decrease of 14.53 percent.

Considering the months of August of the last 5 years, the vegetable quantity index showed a record increase and the variation of the price index decreased below the average.

Compared to the previous month (monthly), the fruit transaction quantity index decreased by 8.48 percent in August, while the transaction price index increased by 49.24 percent. Considering the months of August of the last 5 years, the monthly variations showed a higher than average decrease in the fruit quantity index and a record increase in the price index.
