Eurozone annual inflation was unchanged in August
The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) has published the main inflation data for the euro area for August.
According to the data, annual inflation in the euro area, which in July was 5.3 percent, in August remained at the same level. In the euro zone, the CPI rose 0.6 percent in August compared to the previous month.
Market expectations were for 5.1 percent annual inflation and 0.5 percent monthly inflation in the euro area in August. It should be noted that the inflation data exceeded market expectations.
FOOD INFLATION 9.8 PERCENT
If the main components of inflation are analyzed, the highest annual inflation was 9.8 percent in food, alcohol and tobacco products. Food was followed by services with 5.5 percent and non-energy industrial products with 4.8 percent, while energy products decreased by 3.3 percent.
According to harmonized EU data, inflation in August was 9.6 percent in Slovakia, 8.5 percent in Croatia, 7.6 percent in Austria, 6.4 percent in Germany and Lithuania, 6.1 percent in Slovenia, 5.7 percent in France, 5.6 percent in Latvia and 5.5 percent in Italy. (AA)
