Expectation of abundance in anchovy and oily fish

Ramazan Özkaya, president of the board of directors of the Central Union of Fisheries Cooperatives, said that the fishermen have completed their preparations for the new hunting season, saying: “This year there will not be much bonito, but our anchovy and oily fish will be very good. .”

Özkaya made an assessment to the AA correspondent about the fishing season that will begin in the seas from September 1.

Özkaya expressed that the fishermen’s holiday is on September 1, saying: “All the fishermen have completed their preparations for the new fishing season. Our fishermen will start feeding the citizens with cheap fish”. He used the phrase.

Özkaya, reporting that some fish are especially abundant in the seas, said: “This year there is not much bonito, but our anchovies and blue fish will be very good. The anchovy in Marmara may have a size problem. When the altitude problem is over, our citizens will eat a lot of anchovies”. he said.

REGIONAL FISHING QUOTA AND RECOMMENDATION

Pointing out the need to pay attention to the fish stocks in the seas, Özkaya stated that fishing must be carried out without forgetting that the seas will be left in the hands of future generations. Özkaya stated that the fishermen use a renewable resource and said:

“Our fishermen must be careful when fishing in the sea. We want regional quotas and fisheries to be implemented so that fishing can be done without harming stocks. In this way, our fishermen will be able to spend time with their children after catching the certain fish. This will reduce the pressure on the shares. If we can do this, our stocks, which are currently in a downtrend, will first reach a horizontal level and then start to rise.”

Özkaya stressed that citizens should also pay attention to their height when buying fish, and said that warnings and complaints on this issue are very important.

EARTHQUAKE FISHERMEN ARE TRYING TO PREPARE FOR THE SEASON

Noting that the fishermen affected by the Kahramanmaraş earthquake that took place on February 6 are trying to heal their wounds and prepare for the new season, Özkaya reminded that fishermen in the region are also supported.

Özkaya added that 370 thousand tons of fish are caught annually in Turkey, 60 thousand people work directly in the sector and make great contributions to the economy. (AA)
