The stress of exams is over, the stress of adaptation has begun

For millions of young people and their families, the stress of university exams is over, but the difficulties are not over… Now they face a housing problem. CHP Aydın MP Evrim Karakoz said: “What will students who cannot settle in the KYK dormitory do? Will they stay in the store? The cost of maintaining a house was 15,960 lira last year, this year it was 33,919 lira,” he said. Karakoz explained the difficulties faced by students and their families as follows:

NO PLACES TO STAY

– Especially if college students who are going to study in metropolitan cities can’t settle in KYK dormitories, they don’t have a place to stay. Families cannot afford the prices of private bedrooms, house rents and utility bills.

– In 2022, an apartment for rent in Istanbul cost an average of 8 thousand liras, today it costs 17 thousand liras. In Ankara, it was 6 thousand liras, it increased to 14 thousand liras. In Izmir, it was 7 thousand liras, it became 15 thousand liras.

– Last year, the student who went to register in another city bought a round-trip bus ticket for an average of 540 lira, while this year it was 980 lira. The price of the apartment, which last year was 365 lira, this year has risen to 585 lira. The electricity bill increased from 301 lira to 353 lira. While 221 liras were paid on the water bill, this year 316 liras will be paid.
