The activities of the internet phenomena were classified as ‘dangerous’

The activities of producing video content and disseminating “freaks”, which have the power to influence the masses, have been classified as “dangerous” because they carry some risks in terms of occupational health and safety.

With the Communiqué of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare modifying the “Communiqué on Classes of Occupational Risks in Matters of Safety and Health at Work” published in the Official Gazette, the “List of Classes of Occupational Risks” was updated. which appears in the annex to said communication.

Accordingly, the item “Video content production and streaming activities (by influencers and vloggers)” has been added to the “dangerous” category.

CAUSES VARIOUS OCCUPATIONAL DISEASES

Assessing the change in the statement, Abidin Özler, vice president of the Association of Occupational Safety Experts, stated that the jobs performed by freaks, especially those preparing videos to be posted on social media platforms, carry ergonomic risks such as bad positions in terms of safety and health at work.

Stating that these risks cause various occupational diseases, Özler said: “For this reason, long-term work in front of the screen has been classified as dangerous because it causes such diseases.”

APPLICABLE TO EMPLOYEES WITH AT LEAST ONE SSI

Expressing that the hazard class of the activity to be carried out when opening a workplace is also determined, Özler said:

“This classification has no benefits for influencers who work alone. For the hazard class to apply, the influencer must be covered by the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331. To enter the law, at least one SGK employee must work.

For those working on their own behalf and account, the danger class here is meaningless. If he takes a worker with him, then he has to give them training according to this hazard class, do a risk analysis of their job, and prepare emergency action plans.”

THEY WILL HAVE TO TAKE MEASURES

Providing information about the emergency action plan, Özler said: “If you are shooting a video or something outside, you will have to take all kinds of technical safety measures related to occupational health and safety. So this arrangement covers influencers who work as a team.” he said.

Özler stated that with the increase in the risk class of a workplace, the frequency and duration of occupational health and safety training for those who work there also increased, and the renewal period for risk assessment and the emergency action plan.

Özler said that with the amendment made in the statement, activities such as attending congresses and meetings and conducting research by those who receive attendance fees are also included in the “less dangerous” category. (AA)
