The number of newspapers and magazines decreased by 9.2% in 2022
The Turkish Statistical Institute published the Print Media Statistics and International Standard Number of Books for 2022.
The number of newspapers and magazines decreased 9.2 percent in 2022 compared to 2021 and went to 4,048. Magazines represented 53.9% of these publications.
The circulation of newspapers and magazines decreased by 8.3 percent in 2022 compared to 2021. The total annual circulation of newspapers and magazines published in 2022 in our country is 848 million 365 thousand 241 and 95.4 percent of the circulation was made up of newspapers.
20.9 PERCENT OF MONTHLY MAGAZINES
28.1 percent of the newspapers were published two to six days a week, 25.8 percent weekly and 19.7 percent monthly. On the other hand, 21.3 percent of the magazines were published quarterly, 20.9 percent monthly, and 17.2 percent biweekly.
88.2 percent of the annual circulation of newspapers was daily, 7.9 percent from two to six days a week, 2.6 percent weekly, 64.8 percent of the annual circulation of magazines was monthly, 12.1 percent quarterly, 10.3 percent bimonthly, and 4.8 percent weekly.
17.6 PERCENTAGE OF THE MAGAZINES ARE OF SECTORAL/VOCATIONAL CONTENT
While 17.6 percent of published magazines were industry/professional, 14.0 percent academic, 8.6 percent literary/historical, 90.8 percent of newspapers were political/news/current, 2.1 percent local government, 1.6 percent industry/professional.
According to the information obtained from the administrative records of the Press Advertising Agency, the total cost of official advertisements such as execution, bidding, notification and recruitment published by advertisers in newspapers in accordance with the provisions of the legislation in 2022 and official announcements published by these institutions in newspapers and magazines increased by 56.1 percent compared to the previous year and reached TL 956 million 63 thousand 833.
69,211 BOOKS PUBLISHED IN 2022
The number of published materials decreased by 4.1 percent in 2022 compared to 2021 and went to 83,653.
By the publishers in 2022; ISBNs were obtained for a total of 83,653 materials, including 69,211 books, 377 e-books (DVD, VCD, CD), 13,246 web-based e-books, 559 talking books (online, cassette, CD, DVD), and 260 other materials.
The number of book banners sold decreased by 13.3 percent in 2022 compared to 2021, to 380,296,402.
When publications are broken down by topic, 24.2 percent of the materials published in 2022 were on education, 19.9 percent on adult fiction, 20.7 percent on academics, 15.7 percent on adult culture, 14.0 percent on childhood and early youth, and 5.4 percent on faith.
