Iranian shepherd period after Afghans in Anatolia
In spring and summer, breeders cannot find domestic shepherds due to low wages.
Breeders began to bring shepherds from neighboring Iran.
The breeders, unable to find a local herdsman in Hakkari due to the salary of 20 thousand TL, brought Ali Ahmadi (37) from Iran to take care of their animals.
The Iranian Ali Ahmadi, who responded positively to the offer of the breeders who paid 20,000 TL a month and covered the cost of feeding, works as a shepherd in the village of Boybeyi.
In addition to tending the herd, Ali Ahmadi, who also helps women known as ‘berivan’ with milking, making cheese, yogurt and butter, said job opportunities are limited in Iran.

CARE OF 700 SMALL CATCHES
Stating that he will be a shepherd in Hakkari for 4 months, Ali Ahmedi said, “I am taking care of 700 flocks of sheep. Since I don’t speak Turkish, I can establish a dialogue with the local population in Kurdish. This is how I meet the needs of my family. I receive 20 thousand TL per month. Herding is a difficult profession, but you have to work. I also help the women who come to the highlands to milk from time to time”.
Ranchers who shear sheep in the highlands also said that the number of small cattle in the town has decreased in recent years, but they still have difficulties finding a shepherd. (DHA, SOZCU.COM.TR)
