De Kruif wonders to what extent Ukraine is still capable of carrying out a large coordinated attack. “We had a year where the Russians weren’t able to launch an offensive, and neither was Ukraine. And that goes to show that this war is after all in the trenches, now literally and figuratively.”
De Kruif estimates that within two or three weeks we will know whether this offensive will be successful or not, “or if there really is a kind of stiffening on both sides and if the people will remain in the trenches anyway”. According to the former commander, he indicates that it can be a long war.
