Message of interest and minimum wage from Erdogan

President Tayyip Erdoğan answered questions from journalists on the plane after his visits to the TRNC and Azerbaijan.

The highlights of Erdogan’s remarks, which also delivered a message on interest rates and the minimum wage, are as follows:

– Of course, some friends should not fall into the error of ‘Is the President going to make a serious change in interest policy?’ I am the same here. But at the point of current thought of our Minister of Treasury and Finance, of course, we accepted that he would take the steps that are going to take place here quickly and easily together with the Central Bank, we told him ‘good luck’ and thus also declared our determination to reduce inflation to single digits.

– As you know, during my first ministry, when we reduced (inflation) to a single digit, the interest rate was 4.6 and inflation was 6.2. At that time, we did these things together, and now we have told our Minister these things, we must do it together in the same way. Then we work with the ‘low interest, low inflation’ theory. Now I am working with the same understanding, I have the same mind and I believe that we can achieve this in this way.

We will do everything we can to earn minimum wage. May our worker be comfortable and calm at this point. We are currently working on it, hopefully we will make a decision as soon as possible. The step regarding the salaries of officials will be given in the July negotiations.

– Our banking sector is already strong. It’s about strengthening financial management, so let’s slow the fall in inflation once again.

– We will strive to strengthen our financial sector. We continue and will continue to seek resources in the financial sector.

– (About the appointment of Hafize Gaye Erkan as president of the Central Bank) They also conveyed to us the success of this brother, they said. They talked about these situations, from Goldman Sachs to his work in the banking and financial sector there. And we think that we should have a female manager at the Central Bank. We took this step for the better. We also tell you our expectations. With these steps, both our Minister of Finance and the President of the Central Bank will not embarrass us and I believe that we will obtain good results with the best”. (AA)
