Sharp drop in exports of household appliances

The Turkish Home Appliance Manufacturers Association (TÜRKESD) announced the data for exports and domestic sales for April 2023.

Thus, domestic sales of six main products increased by 27 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while white line exports decreased by 54 percent compared to April of the previous year.

TÜRKESD President Gökhan Sığın said: “With the effect of this contraction, our total production figures decreased by 13 percent in April. We can say that the risk of contraction in the demand for our exports continues due to the general economic turmoil and signs of recession in Europe.

PRODUCTION DECREASED 5 PERCENT IN THE FIRST 4 MONTHS

According to the information provided by Sığın, when considering the total of the first 4 months of the year, production in six main product groups as a sector decreased by 5 percent compared to the previous period, to 10.7 million units.

Domestic sales, on the other hand, rose 14 percent to 3.1 million, while exports fell 24 percent to 6.6 million.

“We expect that in the continuation of 2023 there will be a decrease in the export contraction that we saw in the first 4 months and that our production will gradually increase as we approach the peak sales season.”
