Election boosted suit sales
Hayati Akbaba, president of the Ankara Garment Manufacturers Association, said there was an increase in consumer income thanks to the minimum wage and EYT regulations made earlier in the year, so they expected a movement in sales, but the effect of the The earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş caused the stagnation of sales of ready-made clothing.
Stating that the sector experienced some vitality in the electoral process, Akbaba claimed that there was a 10 to 15 percent increase in suit sales during parliamentary candidacy applications.
Noting that this increase was 25 percent in the past elections, Akbaba said the earthquake and reasons like similar candidates applying for the candidacy in every election period kept the increase at the level of 15 percent this year.
FAVORITE WIPES CANDIDATES
Giving information on the preferences of parliamentary candidates, Akbaba said:
“In the suit, dark colors were generally preferred, black, navy blue and anthracite tones. Waistcoat suits were more popular than in previous years and young parliamentary candidates preferred ‘slim fit’ cuts in the same colours. Therefore, the classic plain shirt, especially the white color, drew a lot of attention. His favorite tie colors were burgundy, black, and navy blue. Tie clips hardly ever used. In general, the scarf accessory was preferred”
Regarding the dress preferences of the female candidates, Akbaba said: “The preferred option for the female candidates was suit or jacket-pants in different colours, jacket and skirt combinations. The candidates preferred shades of blue, brown, burgundy and black.
Referring to the sales expectations for the remaining period of the year, Akbaba said:
“Besides the elections, I think buying for the garment industry will be at an all time high, especially due to the holidays. We are able to achieve the highest turnover we have ever experienced over the holidays.
Purchases postponed by the earthquake will begin with the holiday. Since there is no summer season during the holidays, we see more classic and comfortable clothing options. While women prefer stylish products, men demand casual clothing. We also have great expectations in the sector for the summer season. I don’t think there will be a big price increase. The real recovery of the sector will be at the end of the year”.
WILL THE RISES CONTINUE THIS YEAR?
Noting that the sector had to raise prices until the last quarter of last year due to inflationary pressure, Akbaba said that this situation created a stock problem in the sector.
Noting that the industry is trying to melt down its discounted stocks, Akbaba said: “From this summer or spring season, there are prices that are more entrenched. This summer we will not see high figures like last year, we will dress at lower, more affordable, more real prices. I don’t think the price will go up. Therefore, I expect more vitality in the domestic market.” (AA)
