While citizens cannot buy meat, lamb leaves Nabati

Nureddin Nebati, Minister of Finance and Treasury, made assessments of the agenda. The statements of Minister Nebati, who made statements in Haber Global, are as follows:

* In Turkey, an increase in foreign exchange seems to mean a direct increase in prices. A world that has just come out of the epidemic and the war that is coming upon it has made the phenomenon of inflation very questionable.

“WE MADE A GREAT MOVE”

* Rapidly rising energy prices were also one of the countries where inflation was most felt in Turkey. We made a move. Considering that it should have a social response rather than a technical evaluation, we call it fighting inflation without sacrificing growth.

* Although the war delayed our targets a bit, we saw prices drop and our fight against inflation became much more understandable. Since we did not compromise on growth, companies continued to produce. Investment and production increased. There was no unemployment. Türkiye fell to an unemployment rate of 9.7.

“WE WILL SEE INFLATION RETURN IN MAY”

* Why is inflation still 50 percent? We saw inflation around 80 percent last year, I said it will go down from December. The inflation announced today meets expectations.

* The minimum wage has been increased, production and consumption continues. In the face of the disaster of the century due to the earthquakes of February 6, seeing such inflation in our country means that we have fulfilled what was expected. Next month, despite the Ramadan spike in food prices, we will see inflation fall below 50 percent in May and then recede further.

* In Turkey, all kinds of vegetables are produced in the orchards in summer, and there is a relative decrease due to the fall in prices. In winter, it is produced in a very narrow area and at a very high cost through greenhouse cultivation. Although we see that prices have dropped due to this, we will only understand this in the summer months. This is a classic, food prices go up when Ramadan rolls around. I can assure you that we saw that expectations were broken in the fight against inflation.

* Due to the war, rising currency prices, we face constant price increases, but this year there was half the pressure compared to last year’s rates. Now there is a Türkiye that lowers prices, not increases them. There is a decrease compared to last year.

INCREASE IN THE PRICE OF ONIONS

* Food inflation is above general inflation worldwide. Despite the cereal corridor, prices rose rapidly, drought increased, restrictions were imposed in the EU and England, the quantity of vegetables produced in Spain, Portugal and Africa decreased.

* Tomato production has increased a lot in Türkiye. We have worked a little with our ministries on this. The whole world is under inflationary pressure on food. As of May we will receive the production in the field, but as of this date we will see that the prices have dropped.

*Turkey is known to experience a high potato onion price every year. The farmer goes into high production when prices rise, he can’t find someone to sell when production increases, we bought and distributed it last year, some rotted.

* The farmer gains a year and loses a year, but the farmer must be protected very well. We have reached an agreement with our Minister of Agriculture so that production is done by product in a specific plan. We also say very clearly from the Ministry, we need to reach this level. We have to eliminate people’s talk about whether onions are cheap or expensive. If there is damage to the consumer, let’s put a clear will in terms of a social position so that it is covered by the public.

“MUT MEAT IS CHEAP BUT NOT PREFERRED”

* The taste in Türkiye has changed. Sheep meat is cheap but not preferred for its smell. This also has to be changed. These works must be carried out within the framework of a certain plan and the public must not hesitate to take responsibility. What we have to do here is very important whether the intermediaries increase the prices or not.

* Of course, there are those who deliberately increase prices. It is morally abnormal for intentional acts to be done, but we do investigate them and make serious adjustments. If exorbitant income is generated, our people should get cheap meat through imports.
