Performance may decrease due to earthquake
Kazım Taycı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Istanbul Grains, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters Association (İHBİR), said: “Since the people of the region migrate instead of the sections created by the fault line , the fields cannot be sown, sown, the necessary applications cannot be made during the sowing period, fumigations, fertilizations, hoes cannot be made. Due to these failures, performance may drop,” he said.
The earthquakes, whose epicenter is Kahramanmaraş and affected 11 provinces, also affected agricultural land in the region.
Taycı stated that cracks formed in agricultural land during the earthquake can be filled, saying, “Cracks can be corrected by filling and reinforcing. There are swellings in some places. There are depressions in some places. I don’t think these cracks, dips and crevices affect yield, ie the amount of product to be produced. The most significant problem due to cracks and crevices can be; “Or I was going to gain 100 kilos, I would have gained 97 kilos.” It is said that the gap between the 3 kilos is gone. So it wouldn’t be a big loss,” he said.
MIGRATION CAN AFFECT PRODUCTION
Emphasizing that the biggest danger to agricultural production is possible migration from the region, Taycı said:
“The main loss in production can come from the fact that the people of the region leave the region, sowing, sowing, and the impossibility of providing the services that should be given to the product. It can be affected by irrigation, fertilization, fumigation, the migration of workers from that region and the impossibility of making the necessary applications to the soil and the product.
Due to the migration of people from the region, rather than the transversal cut that the fault line makes there, the fields cannot be sown, sown, the necessary applications cannot be made during the sowing period, they cannot be fumigated, fertilize and hoe. Due to these failures, performance may decrease. After all, if there is no human being, this product does not end up alone in the field. Interventions are needed.”
‘OUR LANDS NEED TO BE VALUED IN THE BEST WAY’
Kazım Taycı stressed that it is necessary to fight especially so that agricultural people do not leave the region to prevent the migration of people from the region, saying: “Our lands must be used in the best way to serve agriculture. The labor required for this must also be provided there. They should be able to carry on with their activities,” he said.
Pointing out that there are serious destructions in cities and that all earthquake-related practices should be applied very carefully in new building construction and construction, Taycı said, “If possible, we should work to see if settlements can be made in areas that are they are more inefficient and suitable for earthquakes instead of arable and plantable agricultural land”.
CITY STRUCTURES MUST NOT ENTER AGRICULTURAL LAND
Taycı said, “If possible, we demand that the new settlement be designed in such a way that the soil is suitable for earthquakes, and structures that meet earthquake guidelines are built, while preserving agricultural land as much as possible. Special attention should be paid to the new structuring of the city, especially from agricultural land, where possible, without going into agricultural land, which is suitable for earthquakes, especially in the way that our scientists will show it.
Taycı stated that as Turkey Exporters’ Assembly (TIM), they started a serious campaigning process in many areas, from food to shelter, to cure the injuries of earthquake victims as soon as possible, and continued his words as follows manner:
“We have provided and will continue to provide serious support for wound healing. Our objective in the shelters is to create container cities and prefabricated structures in different cities, so that those affected by the earthquake in the region can get up as soon as possible and, at the same time, we will continue mobilizing all the means at our disposal. We are a very strong country, I hope we will overcome this disaster by working hand in hand in unity and solidarity”. (AA)
