Selcuk Yasar was born in 1925. He completed his secondary and high school education at Saint Joseph, and his university education at the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences of Dokuz Eylül University. He started his business life in 1945 working at the Durmuş Yaşar Institution.

Selçuk Yaşar married Zuhal Krom in 1954. The couple had three children, Feyhan, Selim, and İdil.

Selçuk Yaşar’s entrepreneurial and innovative nature, his different thinking, his ideas on incorporation and industry played an important role in establishing DYO, Turkey’s first paint brand and production, together with his father and his family.

Selçuk Yaşar was a pioneer in the emergence of the sector, believing in the importance of aquaculture and the need to meet the protein needs of society by increasing fish production. The integrated turkey production plant has also become one of the valuable investments made in the livestock sector.

Selcuk Yaşar’s dream of establishing a university came true in 2001, with the belief that the country will grow and develop with well-educated youth, that he attaches great importance to institutionalization and sustainability, and embraces the principle of running his enterprises with “Science and Unity”. Success”. Yaşar University is on its way to becoming one of the prominent universities in the national and international arena with its nearly ten thousand students and scholars.

Selçuk Yaşar became the honorary president of the Yaşar Group in 2004.

He became one of the founders of BOSAD (Paint Manufacturers Association) by joining with industrialists to support the development of the paint industry in Turkey.

He believed that industrialists and intellectuals should give importance and contribute not only to economic development but also to social development. He made investments in the social field with the Yaşar Education and Culture Foundation and the Selçuk Yaşar Education and Sports Foundation.

Selçuk Yaşar, who was active in sports during his youth, was the honorary president of the Karşıyaka Sports Club, of which he was the biggest supporter as a member and president.

As a sensitive business person, Selçuk Yaşar shared his ideas by writing books and articles on various topics. He always emphasized the need to learn from experience and education.

Selçuk Yaşar, a pioneer in publishing many internal and external publications, started publishing in 1961 with ‘News from DYO’ magazine. Later, he published ‘Bilim Birlik Success’ magazine for many years. He also published publications like Ege Ekspres Newspaper, Gazete Ege and Devir Magazine.

Selçuk Yaşar, who was the Honorary Consulate of Denmark in Izmir and received the “Distinguished Service Order” from the Queen of Denmark, was awarded the title of “Honorary Doctorate” by the Ege University Senate and the Isparta University Senate Suleyman Demirel.

Selçuk Yaşar was honored with the “State Distinguished Service Medal” in 1997 for his contributions to the country’s economy and society.
