Selçuk Yaşar’s funeral will be held at İzmir Karşıyaka Beşikçioğlu Mosque on Monday, February 13, 2023, after midday prayer.

Yaşar will be buried in the family cemetery at the Soğukkuyu cemetery.

WHO IS SELÇUK YAŞAR?

Selcuk Yasar was born in 1925. He completed his secondary and high school education at Saint Joseph, and his university education at the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences of Dokuz Eylül University. He started his business life in 1945 working at the Durmuş Yaşar Institution.

Selçuk Yaşar married Zuhal Krom in 1954. The couple had three children, Feyhan, Selim, and İdil.

Selçuk Yaşar’s entrepreneurial and innovative nature, his different thinking, his ideas on incorporation and industry played an important role in establishing DYO, Turkey’s first paint brand and production, together with his father and his family.

DYOSAD, one of the first companies established with a foreign capital partnership in Turkey, invested in industrial paints and printing inks that will develop the sector after construction paints.

DYO has become one of the pioneering and leading institutions in Turkey with the employment created with the vision of Selçuk Yaşar, the quality products produced, the importance attached to employee development, the distribution system brought to the sector and the strong ties it has established with its business partners, and it is the first step taken on the path towards the establishment of the Yaşar Group. Selçuk Yaşar, the pioneer of agriculture-based industry in Turkey, has implemented many important projects to develop meat and milk production. In the difficult conditions of the 1970s, he believed that the most basic need for Turkey’s development was the development of agriculture-based industry.

In the early 1970s, seeing Çeşme’s tourism potential, he invested heavily in tourism and opened Çeşme Altın Yunus, the first five-star holiday village.

Selçuk Yaşar was a pioneer in the emergence of the sector, believing in the importance of aquaculture and the need to meet the protein needs of society by increasing fish production. The integrated turkey production plant has also become one of the valuable investments made in the livestock sector.

Selcuk Yaşar’s dream of establishing a university came true in 2001, with the belief that the country will grow and develop with well-educated youth, that he attaches great importance to institutionalization and sustainability, and embraces the principle of running his enterprises with “Science and Unity”. Success”. Yaşar University is on its way to becoming one of the prominent universities in the national and international arena with its nearly ten thousand students and scholars.

Selçuk Yaşar became the honorary president of the Yaşar Group in 2004.

He pioneered the establishment of ESİAD (Aegean Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Association) under the leadership of industrialists and entrepreneurs from the Aegean region, with the aim of growing industry and trade, increasing social welfare and future at the global level. world, and served as the chairman of the Senior Advisory Board.

He became one of the founders of BOSAD (Paint Manufacturers Association) by joining with industrialists to support the development of the paint industry in Turkey.

Selçuk Yaşar has always given importance to people, to produce for people and to create value.
He believed that industrialists and intellectuals should give importance and contribute not only to economic development but also to social development. He made investments in the social field with the Yaşar Education and Culture Foundation and the Selçuk Yaşar Education and Sports Foundation.

Selçuk Yaşar, who was active in sports during his youth, was the honorary president of the Karşıyaka Sports Club, of which he was the biggest supporter as a member and president.

As a sensitive business person, Selçuk Yaşar shared his ideas by writing books and articles on various topics. He always emphasized the need to learn from experience and education.

Selçuk Yaşar, a pioneer in publishing many internal and external publications, started publishing in 1961 with ‘News from DYO’ magazine. Later, he published ‘Bilim Birlik Success’ magazine for many years. He also published publications like Ege Ekspres Newspaper, Gazete Ege and Devir Magazine.

Selçuk Yaşar, who was the Honorary Consulate of Denmark in Izmir and received the “Distinguished Service Order” from the Queen of Denmark, was awarded the title of “Honorary Doctorate” by the Ege University Senate and the Isparta University Senate Suleyman Demirel.

Selçuk Yaşar was honored with the “State Distinguished Service Medal” in 1997 for his contributions to the country’s economy and society.
