The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the unemployment figures for December. According to the results of the Household Workforce Survey; The number of unemployed aged 15 and over increased by 62,000 in December 2022 compared to the previous month and reached 3,633,000 people.
The unemployment rate, on the other hand, increased by 0.1 percentage point to 10.3 percent. While the unemployment rate was 8.2 percent for men, it was estimated to be 14.4 percent for women.
The number of employed persons increased by 18,000 in December 2022 compared to the previous month, reaching 31,573,000 people, while the occupancy rate remained unchanged at 48.5 percent. While this rate was 66.0 percent for men, it was 31.3 percent for women.
In December 2022, the labor force increased by 80,000 people compared to the previous month to 35,206,000 people, while the labor force participation rate increased by 0.1 percentage points to 54.1 percent. While the labor force participation rate was 71.9 percent for men, it was 36.6 percent for women.
YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT 18.9 PERCENT
The unemployment rate among the youth population in the 15-24 age group became 18.9 percent, an increase of 1.0 percentage points compared to the previous month. Unemployment rate in this age group; It was estimated to be 15.4 percent in men and 25.4 percent in women.
The calendar and seasonally adjusted average real weekly working hours of the employed during the reference period increased by 0.2 hours compared to the previous month and amounted to 44.5 hours in December 2022.
WIDE UNEMPLOYMENT 21.4 PERCENT
The idle labor force rate, made up of underemployment due to insufficient hours, potential labor force, and the unemployed, stood at 21.4 percent in December 2022, an increase of 0.6 percentage points from the previous month. While the combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment was 14.9 percent, the combined rate of potential labor and unemployment was estimated at 17.2 percent.
