DİSK-AR: Low-income food inflation is 104.8 percent
The Research Center of the Confederation of Revolutionary Unions of Workers (DİSK-AR) announced the food inflation to which low-income citizens are exposed.
Consequently, while TUIK’s food inflation rate was 71 percent in January, retirees’ food inflation was estimated at 90.5 percent.
Food inflation for the third 20 percent income group is 77.1 percent; While food inflation for the bottom 20 percent income group was 91.5 percent, food inflation for the bottom 20 percent income group was 104.8 percent.

In the statement made by DİSK-AR, “Thus, while the poorest income group felt food inflation of 114.9 percent, the highest income group felt food inflation of 57.3 percent. This situation reveals that inflation is felt significantly differently across income groups.
Recalling that the inflation rate, which was 29.7 percent in December 2002, was 57.68 percent in January 2023, the following statements were included:
“Thus, the AKP government increased inflation by 28 points.
The CPI, which was 114 in 2005, rose to 1,203 in 2023. The food price index, which was 112 in 2005, rose to 1,628 in 2023.
Thus, the CPI increased 1,089 points and the food price index increased 1,546 points since 2005. The inflation rate, which was 9.2 percent in 2005, reached 57.7 percent in 2023. Inflation for food, which was 6.8% in 2005, increased to 71% in 2023”.
