The US plan to change the balance in Ukraine
The US administration is reported to have prepared a new military aid package worth some $2.2 billion, which includes sending “longer-range” rockets to Ukraine.
The package, which is expected to be announced in a few days, includes a commitment to provide Ukraine with a guided “small diameter ground-launched bomb” with a range of about 150 kilometers, according to the story, which the Associated Press ( AP) cited to US officials who did not want to reveal their names.
In order to help Russia better defend against missile attacks, the equipment that will connect all the different air defense systems sent to Ukraine by Western countries will also be delivered to Ukraine as part of the package prepared by the US.
The US aid package includes $425 million in munitions and support equipment to be drawn from existing Pentagon stockpiles, and $1.75 billion in new funding through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which will be used to buy new weapons for Ukraine.
The “longer range” rockets to be sent to Ukraine, the air defense system integration kit, two HAWK air defense systems, anti-aircraft weapons and ammunition, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will be financed from the Ukrainian Security Assistance Initiative.
kyiv’S PLEDGE ‘WE WILL NOT ATTACK RUSSIA’
The United States long hesitated to send long-range rocket systems to Ukraine, fearing that Ukraine could target Russian territory and be drawn into the war.
Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said in a statement yesterday that he was ready to guarantee that if his allies delivered long-range missiles to Ukraine, they would not attack Russian territory with these weapons.
Washington has provided approximately $27.2 billion in military support to the Kyiv administration since Russia launched its attacks on Ukraine on February 24, 2022. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
