The price of tomato broke the annual record, that of vegetables in 2 years and that of fruit in 8 years
In January, Antalya Markets Indices for Tomatoes, Vegetables and Fruits decreased by -4.84% in tomatoes, -1.92% in vegetables and increased by 5.96% in fruits compared to the previous month (m/m). The quantity indices decreased -19.47 percent in tomato, -6.09 percent in vegetables and -7.95 percent in fruit with respect to the same month of the previous year (annual).
The annual variations of the indices in January were the averages of the last 8 years for the quantity of tomatoes, vegetables and fruits. Changes in annual price indices were an 8-year record for fruits, the highest after last year for tomatoes, and the highest for vegetables after 2019 and 2021.
TOMATOES DECREASES 4.84 PERCENT IN QUANTITY, INCREASES 20.78 PERCENT IN PRICE
In January, the annual variation of the tomato price index was 138.50 percent. The -19.47 percent decrease in quantity was one of the main reasons for the high increase in price. Although the annual change in the vegetable price index was 92.72 percent, the decrease in the annual quantity index of vegetables by -6.09 percent played an important role in this price increase.
Although the annual change in the fruit price index was at a record level of 129.40 percent, the annual decrease in the number of fruit transactions at -7.95 percent played a role in this increase. The monthly variations of the quantity and price indices for January were the averages of the last 5 years in quantity and price of tomatoes.
Compared to the previous month (mom), the tomato transaction quantity index decreased -4.84 percent in January, while the transaction price index increased 20.78 percent month-on-month. Compared with the previous month (monthly), the vegetable transaction quantity index decreased -1.92 percent in January, while the transaction price index increased 33.64 percent month-on-month. Considering the months of January of the last 5 years, there was an above-average improvement in the vegetable quantity index, and around the average in the price index.
AVERAGE FRUIT IN QUANTITY AND PRICE INDICES
Compared with the previous month (monthly), the fruit transaction quantity index increased 5.96 percent in January, while the transaction price index increased 2.95 percent. Considering the months of January of the last 5 years, the monthly variations of the fruit quantity and price indices were average.
