WHEN, WHAT TIME IS THE MINIMUM WAGE BOARD?
The third meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission will be held at the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare on Tuesday, December 20.
According to the information received from Ministry sources, the time of the third meeting in the field of studies to determine the minimum wage to apply in the new year has been set at 2:00 p.m.
It is expected that at this meeting the figure of the minimum wage that will apply in the new year will be determined.
HOW MUCH WILL THE MINIMUM FEE BE?
It became known that the Board of Presidents of TÜRK-İŞ will meet with the minimum wage agenda before the commission meeting and will make evaluations.
TÜRK-İŞ, which represents the working class in the commission, first wants the negotiation to start with 7,785 lira, which is the hunger limit from the November Hunger and Poverty Limits Survey. In addition, it requires that social participation and purchasing power be protected against inflation.
In addition to this numerical demand, the regulation of income tax brackets in favor of employees and the removal of obstacles to unionization are among the issues that TÜRK-İŞ brings to the negotiating table.
EMPLOYER BALANCED WAGES
The Confederation of Turkish Employers’ Associations (TİSK), which represents the employer segment, does not share a minimum wage figure, but favors a balanced minimum wage, taking workers and employers into account.
TİSK, which wants to protect employment, create new jobs and take into account the competitiveness of companies in the new minimum wage figure, demands that employer support of the minimum wage continue in 2023 as well.
WHEN WILL THE MINIMUM FEE BE ANNOUNCED?
Vedat Bilgin, Minister of Labor and Social Security, spoke during his visit to the Erzurum Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Minister Bilgin, who also shared the latest developments on the minimum wage and EYT (Aged Retirement), said: “The Minimum Wage Commission will meet again next Tuesday. “I hope that in this meeting a compromise will be reached in the negotiation of the minimum wage,” he said.
“A MINIMUM FEE TO REPAIR DAMAGE”
Minister Bilgin said: “We want our employers and companies to have a salary level that they can afford. If there is no company, there is no employer, there is no worker. We think this compromise should set a minimum wage level that gives our workers a sigh of relief and undoes the damage. We will compromise on a wage level that our workers expect and that our employers can afford,” he said.
HOW IS THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINED?
The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, consisting of 15 people, each of whom is five representatives of the employee, the employer and the government, determines the minimum wage. The Commission is summoned to a meeting by the Minister of Labor and Social Security and meets four times in December, by custom, as part of the work to determine the new minimum wage.
The commission, chaired by one of the members determined by the Ministry, meets with the participation of at least 10 members and decides by majority vote. In case of equality of votes, it is accepted that the party with the president has the majority.

The minimum wage is 6,471 liras gross per month for a worker, and 5,500 liras net 35 cents when taxes and deductions are deducted.
The total cost of the minimum wage for the employer is 7,603 liras and 43 cents per worker. Of this, 6,471 liras is the gross minimum wage, 1,003 liras 1 cent is the social security premium, 129 liras 42 cents is the employer’s unemployment insurance premium. (AA)
