China’s share of Russia’s car imports exceeded 90 percent

Vice President of Russia’s Federal Customs Service (FTS) Ruslan Davıdov said China had a 92 percent share of Russia’s automobile imports in the first eight months of this year.

In his statement to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, Davidov stated that the volume of trade between Russia and China has increased “sharply.”

Noting that Russia’s trade with the European Union (EU) continues to decline, Davıdov said: “This is, of course, a predictable situation, because the EU has closed the market (Russia) to itself.”

Davıdov gave an example of the automobile market about the change in Russia’s foreign trade and said: “China had a 92 percent share of Russia’s automobile imports in the first 8 months of this year. “Europe closed in this sense and stopped sales,” he said.

According to data from Russia-based Autostat, sales of new cars in the country increased by 160 percent in August compared to the same period last year, reaching 109,700.

While the Avtovaz company was the company with the largest share in new car sales, the Chinese company Chery took second place.

Many Western automotive companies announced that they would suspend their activities in Russia due to the war between Russia and Ukraine. (AA)
