41 workers have been trapped in the rubble for 12 days… Work is suspended

It was announced that on the twelfth day of rescue efforts for 41 workers trapped in the collapsed tunnel in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, a short break was taken to reinforce the platform where the work machines were located.

Rescue efforts were suspended for 41 workers who were trapped as a result of the collapse of the tunnel under construction on November 12. The authorities indicated that the platform where the auger machine is located will be reinforced to avoid vibrations and that the workers are generally in good condition.

Syed Ata Hasnain, member of the National Disaster Management Authority, said yesterday in his statement on the work that it is important to ensure the safety of those trapped and that it would be a mistake to limit the operation to a timetable.

State Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said in his statement yesterday that he had set up an office in the region to supervise the rescue operation. Stressing that they are communicating with the workers with the help of an endoscopic camera and radio, Singh stated that the workers are in good health and will be removed safely. Authorities emphasized that workers receive hot food and oxygen through smaller diameter pipes. (DHA)
