THEY WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL
Police said five people, including three young children, a man and a woman, were taken to Dublin area hospitals.
Irish police said one of the children and the woman at the scene were treated for serious injuries, while the other two children and the man were treated for less serious injuries. Police launched an investigation into the incident.
Irish public broadcaster RTE also reported that the injuries were due to a suspected stabbing.
THERE WAS CONFUSION AFTER THE INCIDENT
Following the stabbing of five people in Dublin, tension arose between Irish police and protesters who gathered near the area where the stabbing occurred.
The group, which blamed a migrant for the stabbing, set fire to a police vehicle and a tram and attacked some police officers. Protesters also damaged many vehicles.
Irish police announced that one person in connection with the stabbing attack was arrested and treated for serious injuries.
“WILL NOT BE TOLERATED”
Ireland’s Justice Minister Helen McEntee said in a statement: “The horrific attack that took place today in Dublin city center is a horrific crime that has shocked us all, but the scenes we have witnessed in the center of our city this afternoon cannot and will not be tolerated.” he said.
McEntee stressed that “a dishonest and manipulative element must not be allowed to use a horrible tragedy to wreak havoc.” (AA)
