Iraq’s very harsh reaction to US airstrike

The Iraqi government condemned the US attack, which killed three Hashd al-Shaabi members, as a “violation of sovereignty.”

Government spokesman Basim Avvadi made a written statement regarding the US airstrike in the area where Hashd al-Shaabi forces are located in Babylon. “We strongly condemn the attack targeting the Curf al-Sahar region of Babylon.” Avvadi claimed that the attack in question was carried out without the knowledge of the Iraqi government.

Avvadi stated that they consider the events of the last two days (US attacks) as a “dangerous escalation” that means an unacceptable violation of Iraq’s sovereignty:

“The attack is a clear violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and an attempt to disrupt the stable security situation inside.”

Avvadi also stated that only the Iraqi government is responsible for punishing those who break the law in the country and that no outside power has such authority. Avvadi stated that US-led coalition forces are here to support the Iraqi armed forces with training and consultation:

“The attack is far away and exceeds the duty of coalition forces to fight ISIS on Iraqi territory. We call on coalition forces not to take individual actions and to respect Iraq’s sovereignty.

According to the constitution, the Iraqi government is responsible for determining state policy, protecting the regime, and maintaining internal security by ensuring stability. We condemn any armed action outside military institutions and consider it illegal. If any armed group does not comply with this, it goes against the highest national interest of the country. “The government will take necessary measures in the best interest of Iraq.”

The Hashd al-Shaabi Missile Directorate announced in a statement this morning that three people from the Hashd al-Shaabi forces were killed in the US airstrike in the Curf al-Nasser (Jurf es-Sahar) region of the province of Babylon.

Shiite militia groups in Iraq have been attacking US bases in the country since October 7, when Israel began bombing Gaza. The United States responds to these attacks by attacking Hashd al-Shaabi positions in Iraq. (AA)
