Biden’s notable statement on ‘Gaza management’
In a Washington Post article, US President Biden said of the future of Gaza and the West Bank: “While we strive for peace, ultimately Gaza and the West Bank should be reunited under a revitalized Palestinian administration.”
“PALESTINIANS SHOULD NOT BE FORCED TO LEAVE GAZA”
Noting that they are working toward a two-state solution, Biden assessed: “The Palestinians should not be forcibly removed from Gaza, they should not be reoccupied, they should not be besieged or blockaded, and their territory should not be reduced.”
VISA BAN FOR THOSE WHO ATTACK CIVILIANS
While there is known to be an increase in violence by Israeli settlers against civilians, Biden emphasized that they are willing to impose a visa ban on those who attack civilians in the West Bank.
Biden commented in the article: “I insisted to Israeli leaders that extreme violence against Palestinians in the West Bank must stop and that those who perpetrate the violence must be held accountable.”
NETANYAHU SAID “WE WILL BE IN COMPLETE CONTROL”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s words that they would “maintain full control of security in the Gaza Strip” were criticized.
Netanyahu made the same statement today, and Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said: “Those who think that the Palestinian Authority is a civilian solution are wrong. He supported the Israeli Prime Minister saying: “Control of security from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean will always be in Israel’s hands.” (AA)
