Terrible accident: a bus carrying high school students collided with a truck
The vehicles collided in the crash, which occurred shortly before 9 a.m. near an underpass on Interstate 70 West in Licking County, Ohio.
All of those who died in the crash worked or studied at local Tuscarawas Valley schools. Their vehicle was headed to the Ohio School Boards Association conference in Columbus.
The names of the three students were announced in local media as John W. Mosley (18), Jeffrey D. Worrell (18) and 15-year-old Katelyn Owens. The three adults in the same car were all school staff and were identified as teachers Dave Kennat, 56, Shannon Wigfield, 45, and companion Kristy Gaynor, 39.
Licking County Emergency Management Agency Director Sean Grady said the charter bus was carrying students from a school in eastern Ohio, with a total of 57 people on board.
THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
Images taken from the scene show that the rear of the bus was completely engulfed in flames.
While 15 of the 18 injured people were thought to be children, Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools said there may have been “serious injuries” among the students.
As a large emergency service attended the scene, dense clouds of smoke were seen spreading from two vehicles.
The accident investigation continues.
