He was kidnapped during the electoral campaign… An opponent was found dead
In the statement from the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC), it was stated that the lifeless body of Masaya, who was kidnapped by armed men during daylight hours while working for an election campaign in the Mabvuku district of Harare last month November 11, was found near Harare.
The statement maintained that the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) was held responsible for Masaya’s death and called on Zimbabwe police to bring the perpetrators of the incident to justice.
ELECTIONS IN ZIMBABWE
In the presidential and general elections held in Zimbabwe on August 23 and 24 this year, ZANU-PF, which has been in power since 1980, won a majority in the National Assembly, and the party’s candidate, Emmerson Mnangagwa, He was re-elected as president.
The main opposition party, CCC, accused ZANU-PF of rigging the election. The ZANU-PF majority parliament processed the letter allegedly sent by the CCC General Secretariat last month, in which 15 MPs tendered their resignations.
Although CCC deputies declared this letter to be “false” and the resignations invalid, the National Assembly decided to hold by-elections in December for the vacant seats.
In by-elections scheduled for next month, ZANU-PF, which has 176 seats in the 280-seat parliament, has a chance of having a 2/3 majority in parliament if it wins 9 more seats. (AA)
