Creepy image: Angry driver killed protesters blocking road
A horrifying event took place yesterday in Panama, where tensions have been high lately…
While the anti-government protests of the population that reacted to the agreement signed between the Canadian mining company First Quantum Minerals and the government continue, yesterday’s road blockade ended in a bloody way.
Demonstrators protesting against the government and the agreement set up a roadblock on a road and blocked traffic. A driver who was disturbed by this situation and stuck in traffic reacted. The middle-aged man, whose name was not revealed, spoke to the activists and shot two people with a gun he pulled from his pocket.
The moment of the attack, which took place before the eyes of the media and activists, was recorded moment by moment. While it was claimed that one person was arrested in connection with the incident, no further details were shared.
The Panama Teachers Association (ASOPROF) said in a statement on Day X that the person who carried out the shooting was a US citizen, but this could not be immediately confirmed by authorities.
20 YEAR CONTRACT SIGNED
The new contract, signed by the Panamanian government on October 20, grants First Quantum mining rights for 20 years and an option to extend for another 20 years in exchange for annual revenues of $375 million for Panama.
Although the government says the new contract offers better conditions than the previous one, protesters disagree.
