Internet and network disruption affected millions of people
According to ABC News, Optus CEO Kelly Bayer Rosmarin stated that the outage began at 04:00 local time.
While users criticized Optus for not informing them of the outage, Rosmarin said in its statement hours after the outage that teams were working on the issue and that network and internet services had begun to be fixed.
Rosmarín pointed out that the outage could last a few more hours and emphasized that they will work continuously until the problem is resolved.
While it is not yet known whether a cyberattack caused the outage, there were disruptions to healthcare, transportation and payment systems across the country due to Optus being out of service.
