Almost 1.5 million people have been displaced since October 7
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) announced that the number of displaced people in the Gaza Strip since October 7 has approached 1.5 million.
In the report published by UNRWA, “Approximately 1.5 million people have been displaced across the Gaza Strip since October 7. About half of these people (717,000) are housed in 149 UNRWA facilities in Gaza’s five governorates, including the north. More than 557,000 displaced people are sheltered in 92 facilities in the Khan Younis and Rafah regions. Before the Israeli authorities issued the evacuation order, as of October 12, 2023, approximately 160,000 displaced people were housed in 57 UNRWA schools in the northern and Gaza regions. “UNRWA cannot access these shelters to help or protect the displaced and is unaware of their needs and conditions.”
88 UNRWA WORKERS LOST THEIR LIVES
UNRWA stated that 5 more employees lost their lives in the last 24 hours and 88 people working within the organization have died so far, saying: “5 UNRWA employees lost their lives in the attacks carried out in the northern, central and southern regions of the Gaza Strip in the last 24 hours. UNRWA confirmed that four more of its colleagues were killed in attacks in late October. “Thus, the total number of UNRWA employees who have been killed since the start of the conflict increased to 88, while at least 25 people were injured.”
