An artillery shell hit a market in Sudan… Dozens dead
In Khartoum, capital of Sudan, where the civil war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (HDK) has been going on since mid-April, 34 people lost their lives as a result of an artillery shell that hit the market square.
According to national media reports, an artillery shell hit a market in the Kerari district of Omdurman, west of the capital, during clashes between the two military forces. In the incident, 34 civilians lost their lives and many people were injured.
Yesterday, 15 people were killed when artillery shells hit homes in the capital, Khartoum.
In Sudan’s seven-month civil war, the parties continue to clash with heavy weapons in nine states in the west and southwest of the country, as well as in the capital, Khartoum. The HDK, which the Sudanese government asked the international community to accept as a “terrorist group”, was a military force whose integration into the system had not yet been completed before the civil war that broke out on April 15.
According to the United Nations, nearly 6 million people have been displaced from their homes due to conflict in the region. In the conflicts, more than 10,000 civilians lost their lives and 25 million Sudanese required humanitarian aid.
The negotiations, which began on October 29 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, under the mediation of Saudi Arabia and the United States, have yet to yield any results. (AA)
