France calls for a “humanitarian ceasefire” for Gaza
The French Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, made statements on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the parliamentary plenary session.
After stating that “Israel has the right to defend itself,” Borne stated that he wants the Palestinians to have a state.
Borne emphasized that thousands of people, including children, died during the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“CONTRIBUTE TO THE ceasefire”
Calling for a “humanitarian ceasefire” to distribute humanitarian aid in Gaza, Borne assessed that this could later contribute to a “ceasefire.”
Borne, who called for the Rafah border gate to be opened to allow the passage of additional humanitarian aid, said it is vital to take measures to prevent the escalation of the conflict in the region.
CANCEL CESSATION CALL WILL BE DISCUSSED AT EU LEADERS SUMMIT
On the other hand, the expectation that European Union (EU) countries will call for a break in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to allow humanitarian aid to Gaza is left for the EU Leaders’ Summit to be held this week.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, stated that issues such as the pause in hostilities and the call for a ceasefire will be discussed at the EU Leaders’ Summit on 26 and 27 October, and stated: “A pause in hostilities will facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid and will also allow displaced people to find shelter.” “I think a breakup is something the leaders would support,” he said.
Borrell said:
The right to self-defense has its limits. These borders are the lines drawn by international law. We repeat this. In particular, cutting off electricity and water to civilians cannot be within these limits. “According to international law, a besieged population cannot be deprived of water and electricity.”
“No one knows better than the Jewish people how much harm one person can do to another.” Borrell stated that humanitarian aid should be delivered to Gaza and added:
“We must confront and address the current humanitarian disaster in Gaza. We can do both together. We can condemn the terrorist attacks and work to prevent the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. To achieve this, it is essential to provide humanitarian aid.” (AA)
