France to sell air defense systems to Armenia

French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu held a joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart Suren Papikyan, whom he met in the capital Paris.

Lecornu noted that he received Papikyan in Paris for the third time and stated that relations between France and Armenia have a long history.

THEY WILL OPEN A MILITARY SHIP

After stating that they have increased cooperation with Armenia in the field of defense, the French minister announced that his country will open a military attaché in the embassy in Yerevan.

Lecornu stated that France will provide support to Armenia in military training during the period 2023-2024.

Noting that French soldiers will train Armenian soldiers, Lecornu also stated that France reached an agreement with Armenia for the sale of 3 GM200 type radars.

Stating that the two countries also signed a letter of goodwill for the Mistral air defense missile system today, the French minister stressed that the weapons to be sold to Armenia are for the defense and protection of civilians, not for attack .

NEGOTIATIONS CONFIRMED

On the other hand, Lecornu confirmed that the French defense industry company Dassault Aviation is negotiating with Saudi Arabia the sale of 54 Rafale combat aircraft.

Armenian Minister Papikyan also stated that France and the French people supported Armenia in its difficult times.

Papikyan stated that the problems of the South Caucasus and Armenia have not yet been resolved and stated that his country only aspires to permanent peace in the region. (AA)
